French Broad & Catawba We currently have a permanent and a modular layout in HO Scale. The permanent layout is located at our club in Belmont and the modular is in the Belmont RR Museum. The modular layout also visits an annual Christmas show as well as other shows. The French Broad & Catawba is our fictional RR set in western NC during the late 40's to late 50's. The permanent layout's benchwork and subroad is 70% complete and will soon have trains running.

Esablished in June of 2010, the Piedmont-Triad Model Railroaders Club goal is to promote the joys of model railroading among its members and the general public, by publicly displaying our modular layout, and to attract a new generation to the joys of model railroading. Club is HO gauge....one permanent layout...approximately 35X90....14 adult members....1 teenage member....2 family memberships.....modeling from early 1900s to date....have own building with 24 hr access....in existence for about 17 years....PLUS have a "traveling layout" that is about 60 feet square, and adaptable to available show space. Both layouts modular in construction.....two main lines....three track levels.....do periodic shows in area. Prospective members.....male, female....young (at least 8 yrs old with parent membership) or 13 plus for student membership. Dues paying club....used to pay rent...lights, etc. Organized as non-profit....leadership chosen annually by members. Age range right now from 6 to 66 (literally). Looking for new members.....any gauge.....looking into possibility of 0-27, and N gauge layouts.

The club operates a freelance HO layout allowing our members to run what they prefer to model. The time period is flexible. We run from '20's steam to modern diesels, passenger and freight as well as intermodal. We operate over a double-track mainline approximately 7 scale miles which traverses 65 modules and spans 120' x 20' of real-space. There are two main yards and one staging yard totaling a 2000 car capacity with tons of detail and lots of structures. For those interested in something unique, we have a club patch for sale. Our layout is located on the second floor of the Antique Barn & Train Shop in Wilson, NC.

Meetings: Member meetings on the first Saturday of the month Open House: Every Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
